Friends, yesterday there was no blog post from lack of sleep.
My day was ok but writing did not happen.
Since I am up at the crack of dawn… again! I am getting right to work.
Back in March of this year I talked with Maggie Royce, my niece, about doing a collaboration.
She is a beautiful young artist who occasionally came to our art studio when she was 7 years old and worked on oil painting together.
Fast forward to 2019, we are collaborating as artists.
Our thought was that she would make these beautiful hand stitched journals and I would make art for the covers.
We picked up this collaboration idea again a couple months ago.
And here they are! Our idea turned into reality, with 12 unique handmade journals in two different sizes.
My discovery in this process of making the art for the covers was related to my use of color and design, especially in a couple of them.
They came straight out of the design of a native American blanket my husband used to own.
He saved up his money and bought it when he was in high school, it was an investment.
He had it for over 45 years, now they are both gone Brad and the blanket.
Out of no where I reproduced the exact feel and color scheme of the blanket.
It was stored in my mind, ready to come out and surprise me.
This is one of the many gifts of collaborating with Maggie, making unique works of art in the most traditional way possible, hand stitched and hand painted.
Each work of art is one of a kind and has its own title.
Here are the journals available through Etsy:
